Only two services on this list run a real verified student discount in India: YouTube Premium Student at ₹89 a month and Apple Music Student at ₹69 a month — which includes Apple TV at no extra cost. That second one is the best-kept value in Indian streaming: ₹69 gets you a full music service and a video service.
Everything else has no student rate. For those, the way students actually save is household sharing — and it beats most student discounts anyway.
The two real student discounts
YouTube Premium Student — ₹89 a month
Requires eligibility verification, re-checked annually. You get ad-free YouTube, background play, downloads, and YouTube Music Premium included. Against the ₹149 individual rate that saves ₹720 a year. For anyone using YouTube for lectures and revision, background play alone justifies it — you can lock your phone and keep listening.
Buy it on the web, not in the iPhone app. iOS in-app pricing is roughly 30% higher, around ₹195.
Apple Music Student — ₹69 a month, includes Apple TV
Apple bundles Apple TV into the student Music plan at no extra charge. That is a full music library plus a video service with 4K HDR and 6 simultaneous streams, for ₹69 a month. Nothing else in India comes close on a per-rupee basis.
What about a student discount on Netflix, Prime or JioHotstar?
There isn’t one. None of Netflix, JioHotstar, SonyLIV or ZEE5 operates a student programme in India, and Amazon’s India Prime does not currently offer the student rate available in some other countries. Treat any site advertising a “student Netflix plan India” with suspicion — it is not a real product.
What actually works instead: split a household plan
This is the real answer for students, and it is entirely within the platforms’ terms as long as everyone is in the same home — a shared flat or hostel room counts, a friend across the city does not.

One caution on YouTube Premium Family: members must share the same residential address, and YouTube may pause access if the household cannot be verified. Do not build a plan around six people in six cities.
The cheapest workable student setup
- ₹69 a month, on your own: Apple Music Student, with Apple TV included. Music for studying plus a video service.
- ₹158 a month, on your own: add YouTube Premium Student at ₹89 if you rely on YouTube for coursework — ad-free lectures and background play.
- ₹115 a month, sharing with three flatmates: Apple Music Student ₹69 plus your ₹46 share of JioHotstar Premium. Music, Apple TV, HBO Max, Hollywood, cricket and 4K.
That last one is the best value in this article. It costs less than a single Netflix Standard plan.
