Netflix India sells four plans. They all give you the exact same shows and films — nothing is locked behind a higher tier. What changes is picture quality, how many people can watch at once, how many devices can hold downloads, and whether it works on a TV at all.
That means choosing a plan is not about content. It is about your household and your screen. Here is the comparison, then a straight decision guide.

Netflix India does not sell an official annual plan. The yearly figures above are simply the monthly price multiplied by twelve.
What actually changes between the tiers
Mobile to Basic: ₹50 buys you the TV
This is the single most important jump. The Mobile plan physically will not cast or play on a television or laptop. If there is any chance you will want to watch on a TV — even occasionally, even at someone else’s house — Basic at ₹199 is the plan you want. Fifty rupees is a small price for not being locked out of the biggest screen in the house.
Basic to Standard: ₹300 buys you a second viewer and Full HD
This is the biggest rupee jump in the line-up, so be honest about whether you need it. You are paying for two things: 1080p instead of 720p, and two people watching at the same time.
On a phone, the difference between 720p and 1080p is close to invisible. On a 43-inch or larger TV, it is clearly visible. If you live alone and mostly watch on your phone, Basic is genuinely fine and Standard is money burnt.
Standard to Premium: ₹150 buys 4K and two more screens
This is the best-value upgrade in the range, but only if you can use it. 4K needs a 4K TV and a stable connection of roughly 15–25 Mbps. On a 1080p TV you will see no difference at all.
The real argument for Premium is the four simultaneous screens. Split across four people in one home it works out to around ₹162 each — cheaper per person than the Mobile plan.
Which plan suits you
You live alone and watch on your phone
Mobile (₹149) if you are certain you will never want a TV. Basic (₹199) if you are not certain. Most single viewers are better off on Basic.
Couple sharing one account
Standard (₹499). Two screens is the whole point. Basic will lock the second person out mid-episode, which is exactly the annoyance you are paying to avoid.
Family of three or four, one TV plus phones
Premium (₹649). Four screens, six download devices, and 4K if your TV supports it. Per person it is the cheapest plan Netflix sells.
You travel and watch offline a lot
Standard or Premium. Mobile and Basic allow downloads on only one device, so a phone and a tablet cannot both hold offline titles.
You bought a 4K TV recently
Premium. It is the only plan that streams 4K and HDR. On any lower plan your expensive panel is showing you a 1080p image at best.
Three mistakes people make
- Paying for Premium on a 1080p TV. If your TV is not 4K, you are paying ₹150 a month for screens you may not be using either.
- Buying Mobile to save ₹50, then discovering it will not cast. The most common regret in this line-up.
- Staying on the plan you picked years ago. Households change. Review it once a year — downgrading takes half a minute and applies from the next billing date.
If you want to spend less than MRP
Two honest routes. First, check whether your telecom or broadband plan already bundles Netflix — Jio, Airtel and Tata Play all do on their higher tiers, and many people pay twice without realising. No. Every plan gives you the identical catalogue. Only quality, screens and downloads differ.
Can I change my plan mid-month?
Yes. Upgrades usually apply immediately; downgrades apply from your next billing date. There is no fee either way.
Does the Mobile plan work on a smart TV?
No. It is restricted to phones and tablets, and it will not cast to a TV. This is the most common complaint from Mobile plan buyers.
Is Premium worth it without a 4K TV?
Only for the four simultaneous screens. If two screens are enough for your home, Standard saves you ₹1,800 a year for an identical viewing experience.
