Netflix in India costs between ₹149 and ₹649 a month. On the Premium plan that is ₹7,788 a year — for one service. If you also pay for a music app, a couple of other OTT apps and a cloud plan, ₹25,000–35,000 a year disappears without you noticing.
So the question people actually search for is simple: how do I pay less for the same Netflix? Below are seven ways that are legal, work in India today, and do not involve anything sketchy. We have also listed what not to do, because most “cheap Netflix” advice online will get your account blocked or your money taken.

7 legit ways to pay less for Netflix in India
1. Right-size the plan (this is the biggest saving)
Most people are on Premium out of habit, not need. Premium only earns its price if you genuinely use 4K on a 4K TV, or if four people watch at the same time.
- Watch mostly on your phone, alone? Mobile at ₹149 saves you ₹6,000 a year versus Premium.
- One TV, one viewer at a time? Basic at ₹199 is enough.
- Two people, Full HD? Standard at ₹499.
- 4K TV plus three other people watching? Premium at ₹649 is the honest fit.
Downgrading takes 30 seconds in your Netflix account settings and applies from your next billing date. Nothing is lost — your profiles, list and history stay exactly as they are.
2. Check whether your telecom or broadband bill already includes it
This is the most under-used saving in India. Several plans bundle Netflix at no extra charge:
- Jio — higher Jio postpaid plans include Netflix Mobile; JioFiber’s upper broadband tiers include Netflix Standard or Premium.
- Airtel — the ₹1,199 and above postpaid plans and some Xstream Fiber packs include Netflix Basic or Standard. Airtel Black combos often include it too.
- Tata Play — DTH combo packs that bundle Netflix with the TV subscription.
Before you pay Netflix separately, open your telecom app and look at your current plan’s benefits page. Plenty of people are paying twice for the same thing. Bundle line-ups change often, so confirm with the operator rather than with a blog.
3. Split one Premium plan inside your household
Premium allows four simultaneous streams and up to five profiles. Split among four people in the same home, ₹649 becomes about ₹162 each — cheaper per person than the Mobile plan, with 4K.
The catch is the word household. Netflix’s rules expect everyone on the account to live at the same address, and it checks using IP address, device IDs and account activity. 4. Use card and UPI offers — but do the maths
Banks and UPI apps periodically run cashback on OTT and recurring payments. These are real but small: typically 5–10% capped at a low amount, and often once per user. Worth switching your Netflix autopay to the right card. Not worth taking a new card for.
Rule of thumb: a genuine bank offer never asks you to click a link from a WhatsApp forward. Go to the bank’s own app or site.
5. Buy through a verified reseller — with your eyes open
This is what we do, so treat this section as us describing our own product, not as neutral advice.
Resellers sell access at below MRP, usually as a shared or supplied account rather than a subscription in your own name. That is cheaper, and it is also a real trade-off you should understand before buying:
- You do not own the billing relationship with Netflix, so you cannot change the plan or manage payment yourself.
- Shared accounts can be interrupted if the platform enforces household rules.
- Your protection is the seller’s replacement warranty, not Netflix’s support.

6. Rotate instead of stacking
Netflix has no lock-in and no cancellation fee. Most people finish the two or three shows they actually wanted in about a month.
Subscribe for one month, watch what you wanted, cancel, and move that budget to another service next month. Four services rotated one month each costs roughly a quarter of four services running all year. 7. Watch for festival and long-duration offers
Netflix India does not sell an official annual plan, so anything advertised as “Netflix 1 year at 70% off” is not coming from Netflix. What does appear around Diwali and big sale weeks are bank offers, telecom bundle upgrades and reseller discounts. Those are the real ones.
What not to do
- “Free Netflix” codes and generators. There is no Netflix free trial in India. Every one of these is a phishing or ad-fraud page.
- Grey-market gift card sites. Cards bought on international voucher marketplaces are frequently region-locked or charged back later, and you have no recourse.
- VPN-plus-foreign-billing tricks. Paying in a cheaper country’s currency violates Netflix’s terms and Indian card rules, and accounts do get cancelled.
- Anyone asking for your existing Netflix password. No legitimate seller ever needs it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Netflix free trial in India?
No. Netflix ended free trials in India and has not brought them back. Any site offering one is not Netflix.
Is there a Netflix student discount in India?
No official student plan exists in India. The Mobile plan at ₹149 is the cheapest legitimate entry point.
Does paying yearly make Netflix cheaper?
Netflix India only bills monthly. A “yearly price” is just the monthly price multiplied by twelve — there is no official annual discount.
Will downgrading my plan delete my watch history?
No. Profiles, My List, watch history and recommendations all stay. Only screens, resolution and download limits change.
