Choosing between Netflix’s plans comes down to three questions: what screen do you watch on, how many people share the account, and does picture quality actually matter to you? Here’s the no-nonsense comparison — and who each plan is genuinely right for.
Side-by-side comparison (2026)
| Feature | Basic (₹199) | Standard (₹499) | Premium (₹649) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video quality | 720p HD | 1080p Full HD | 4K Ultra HD + HDR |
| Screens at once | 1 | 2 | 4 |
| Download devices | 1 | 2 | 6 |
| Spatial audio | No | No | Yes |
| Works on TV | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Cost per year | ₹2,388 | ₹5,988 | ₹7,788 |
(There’s also the ₹149 Mobile plan — phone/tablet only, no TV. See all plans in our full Netflix plans guide.)
Pick Basic if…
You watch alone, mostly on a laptop or a smaller TV, and care more about the story than the sharpness. 720p is genuinely fine on screens up to about 32 inches. At ₹199 it’s the cheapest way to get Netflix on a TV — just know that on a big 4K panel, 720p looks noticeably soft, especially in dark scenes.
Pick Standard if…
Two of you share the account — a couple, or you plus a sibling — and you have a Full HD TV. Two simultaneous screens means no more “who’s watching on my profile?” fights, and 1080p is the sweet spot for most TVs sold in India. The ₹300 jump from Basic buys the second screen more than the resolution.
Pick Premium if…
You have a 4K TV, a family of viewers, or you’re splitting the cost. Four screens, six download devices, 4K HDR and spatial audio make Premium the best value per person — ₹162 each for a family of four beats every other plan. If you’re paying for a 4K TV, watching in 720p is leaving half your TV’s picture unused.
The full ₹649 too much? Two honest workarounds: split it within your household, or get Premium-tier access from a verified reseller — our Netflix Premium starts at ₹100/month with a replacement warranty. All the tradeoffs are in our guide to getting Netflix cheaper.
The verdict in one line
Solo on small screens → Basic. Two people, Full HD TV → Standard. Family, 4K TV, or cost-splitting → Premium (and don’t pay full price for it if you don’t have to).
FAQs
Can I switch plans anytime?
Yes — Account → Change Plan. Upgrades apply immediately; downgrades apply from your next billing date. Switching takes under a minute.
Is 4K worth it without a 4K TV?
No. A 1080p screen can’t display 4K detail. Buy Premium for the four screens and downloads, not for resolution you can’t see.
Do all plans have the same shows?
Yes — every plan gets the identical catalogue. You’re only paying for quality, screens and downloads, never for content.
